Mulled Cider

As the weather gets colder it’s time to make those warm & yummy drinks that keep you all toasty inside! Every Fall/Winter I try to make this when company comes over. The aroma of the cider cooking fills the house and makes it smell lovely all day – another reason I love my crockpot(s)!

Mulled Cider

2 quarts apple cider
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 orange (unpeeled), sliced
2-4 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves

Combine cider, sugar, ginger and orange in a slow cooker. If you want you can tie the cinnamon and cloves together in a small cheesecloth bag and add to the slow cooker….(I don’t bother and just throw everything into the pot to cook together!) Cover and heat on LOW minimum 4 hours to blend flavours. If you’ve used the cheesecloth bag remove it before serving. Serve from slow cooker.

Variation – as I am not always able to find apple cider readily available in the grocery stores….I more often than not will substitute a large bottle or a couple smaller bottles of non alcoholic sparkling apple juice with regular apple juice (tetra pack box). It turns out tasty and just as good!
